Description

The noble austerity of this great dry white is precisely complemented by the delicate apricot fruit, the intense wild herb and mineral character giving it great charisma. Although still very youthful, you can taste how the spring frosts that dramatically reduced the yield resulted in exceptional flavor concentration without making the wine in the slightest degree bit heavy. Indeed, the stunningly vibrant finish is very cool with enormous citrus and herbal freshness.

Traiser BASTEI

One of the most spectacular vineyards in the world! Like an amphitheater, the gigantic Rotenfels cliffs tower over a tiny stage – a few narrow vineyard terraces – on which only Riesling can give a compelling performance. These old vines root deep in the volcanic rhyolite scree that crumbled from the over 200 meter high rock face over thousands of years. Anyone who’s seen the Rotenfels – a gigantic heat reservoir! – glowing red in the setting sun can imagine what stories the wines from this unique site have to tell. Precious, the immensely mineral essence in the rare bottles of Bastei GG!

recommendation

Excellent with strongly flavored poultry guinea hen, partridge, pheasant, wild duck or goose. Alternatively, serve with high quality pork from a heritage breed. Roasted beets and other root vegetables are also excellent. Spicy East Asian dishes are no problem, but younger vintages are better suited to these dishes than mature ones.
