Winemaking / Winemaker

(See also: wine)

The art or craft of making wine has sometimes been called the second oldest profession, and not without good reason, for the oldest archeological evidence for the making of wine from grapes is the Areni-1 winery in the mountains of Armenia and it dates from 4,000 – 4100 BC. Today wine is a global industry of major economic importance to countries as different as France, Chile, Australia and Georgia. The enormous range in the taste of wine results from the enormous genetic diversity of the wine grape, the diversity of climate and geology of vineyard locations scattered around Planet Wine and to the diversity of winemaking techniques employed. Gut Hermannsberg is one unique facet of this enormously wide spectrum. What other food or beverage can age for a century or more and still taste really good?
